C0E Water reservoir upgraded!

COE increased water storage

GERMISTON – The City’s technicians are applying water demand management at Russell Road
Reservoir in Germiston to eliminate supply interruptions to areas such as Norton Small Farms,
Castleview, and Albermarle.

The City has discovered that the recently experienced intermitted water supply is caused by low
storage level at the reservoir.
The demand management intervention to be undertaken will entail a periodic valve closure between
22:00 and 05:00 from Thursday, 15 August to Saturday, 17 August – this to increase water storage level
at the reservoir.
The following areas will experience temporary supply interruptions during the process:
• Wadeville;
• Cruywagen Park; and
• Roodekop.
While the City works on enhancing the water storage capacity, the officials continue to engage
industries to ensure they accumulate sufficient internal storage capacity that is equivalent to their
daily demand for up to 36 hours or more.
In efforts to enhance water security for the area, the city is constructing an additional reservoir in
Russell Road.

This new facility will hold an additional 22.5 Mega Litres of water, creating sustainable
additional storage capacity for developments in and around Wadeville, Lambton, and Norton Farms.
Residents are advised to prioritise essential water usage and implement water-saving measures to
conserve water and ensure that essential needs are met.
