G20 IN SOUTH AFRICA
G20 Summary report
The G20 Leaders' Summit was hosted at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the first time.
The summit was attended by all G20 members except the United States of America, whose president, Donald J. Trump, boycotted the event and even refused to send any United States representatives.
The event, hosted for the very first time on African soil, was a significant milestone for the host country, South Africa, despite earlier uncertainty about whether the summit would take place and whether a resolution would be adopted by member states.
The event ultimately proved to be very successful, and a resolution was adopted by the majority of members.
President Ramaphosa emphasised the issue of ongoing conflicts in Sudan, the DRC, Ethiopia, and many other African countries.
Peace and the silencing of guns worldwide were top items on the agenda.
Members of the European Union, African Union, United Nations, and many other civil organisations were present at Nasrec.
The Leaders' Summit resolution also addressed the wars between Ukraine and Russia, as well as Israel and Palestine.
Another key resolution on the agenda was the global fight against poverty, with commitments to support poorer countries in building and strengthening their economies.
The President of Turkey, the President of France, and many other world leaders were present.
The G20 is an important body because it represents the world’s most powerful economies.
It sets the direction for policies and regulations aimed at addressing many of the global challenges the world is facing.
Germiston News was in the room, and Giscard Ngwama was present, conducting many interviews which can be found on our social media platforms.
The political tensions between South Africa and the United States continue.
The US will be hosting the G20 Summit in Washington, D.C., in 2026, and Donald J. Trump has already stated: “South Africa won’t be invited.”
South Africa is a founding member of the G20, and for the RSA not to be invited could lead to significant chaos ahead of next year’s summit in the US.
More developments will be shared with all our readers.
